Memories of Ski '08 Killington, Vermont

Ski ’08 Killington, Vermont

7.15 was the time to go
Girls aboard, bound for Heathrow
SHS on time today
Not for a fixture, but a ski trip away.
Killington, Vermont - our destination
Everyone - full of anticipation!
Soon on the plane and ready to fly
Across the Atlantic, high in the sky.
All went well until high winds took hold
Gasps and screams from those less bold.
Safe on the ground, we had to stay on the plane
Then two hours in immigration- a real pain!
Snow started to fall as we drove through the night…
At last, The Mountain Inn came into sight.
3a.m. and we fell straight into bed,
Knowing just four hours sleep lay ahead.
Up at seven, doughnuts and waffles enticed us downstairs,
A blizzard was blowing so we donned plenty of layers.
Helmets, goggles and gloves - our attire
As we boarded the bus, heading for ski hire.
All kitted up, we hit the slopes
Excited, enthusiastic and full of high hopes.
Our instructors for the week - Dave, Ken, Ellen and Jay
Whisked us off up the mountain without delay.
Despite fatigue and the odd tumble and fall
A fantastic day’s skiing was had by all!
Charlotte Ibbo was Wally number one
For leaving the lift early and bringing Laura down.
Slipping into bikinis and rolling in the snow, girls frolicked happily in the hot pool
Staff watched on, all warm inside, aware of admiring glances from another school.
There was mayhem in the boot room at the start of day two
Grabbing two left boots- a bit of a boo boo!!
The skiing was superb though-
Style starting to flow in the sun and the snow.
Wally winner was Cate for her pronunciation of “Snowshed”
And evening entertainment was “Licensed to Wed”
Day three was Easter Sunday and the bunnies brought us treats,
So we did shooshing and carving, munching our sweets.
The Oakley stocks diminished - bargains not to be missed
So much on offer, it was hard to resist.
Miss Webster won the Wally hat for her lift lap dance
And Lauren top scored at bowling with a 143 performance!
It was a late, late night and the girls were quite drained
But Mrs Dickson’s “moose” chat kept the staff entertained!
The odd hiccup beset us on day number four
Poles were dropped and Holly’s feet were sore-
She was the winner of the Wally award
Last week’s hot pads rubbed her feet red raw!
Thumbs down to the disco – the girls chose to relax…
Chilling and pooling – using facilities to the max!
Our last day of skiing dawned bright and clear
We did greens, blues and blacks- showing no fear!
Katie H skied on her bottom, then lying down-
Without a doubt, she won the Wally crown!
The girls were awarded diplomas for doing so well
And we bid our trusty instructors an emotional farewell.
The next leg of our trip, we couldn’t go without stopping…
At Woodbury Green Mall to do some shopping.
Laden with bags, we got back on the bus,
Oscar, our driver, there to meet us.
Straight to New York for the quickest of changes
As much pizza as we could eat had been arranged for us.
Leaving Time Square behind and on to Broadway
For a fantastic performance of the musical, “Hairspray”.
Our very last day saw us at the top of the Rock
Viewing the magnificent skyline across New York.
Macy’s was next with yet more things to buy
Bags on the bus were piling up high!
Just one last stop as a sightseer -
Ground Zero-where the Twin Towers once were.
After that, we headed for the airport at Newark
Where we had to bid farewell to New York.
A fabulous trip was had by us all
With Miss Webster in charge, we’d had a ball.
Back up the M1 with coach driver, Jack
We were just left wondering when we’ll go back.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

After a three hour shopping spree at an outlet mall, and the bus ten times heavier with designer shopping bags, we hit NYC!

We arrived slightly earlier than expected- which gave the girls longer to prepare for our 'girls night out' (and Dr D who also bought a new shirt for the occasion!)

We walked along the glitz and glamour of Times Square to the theatre, where we finally got to our venue. All of the girls thought that the show (Hairspray) was absolutely fantastic!

Even more shopping tomorrow before our flight back tomorrow night!

Easter Sunday

A beautiful day dawned bright and clear...a chill wind blew but the Easter bunnies came and brought us bags of easter goodies...

All the girls are enjoying the skiing and are having great fun- the latest Wally award goes to Miss Webster for creating chaos on the lift and ending up with her group's instructor on her lap!

The hot pool is proving to be very popular with the girls (but not the staff who observe the snow angels from a warm and comfortable vantage point!)

Tonight's activity is in full swing with the girls demonstrating their bowling skills whilst the staff compete with another school- SHS look set for victory-providing Mrs Heaton keeps out of the way!!!

Further snow is forecast tonight promising ideal conditions for tomorrow's escapades on the slopes.

More to follow at a later date...

We've arrived!

We arrived safely in Killington at 3am after a very long & tiring journey - everyone is in good spirits & despite only managing around 3 hours sleep we were all up & breakfasting by 7am ready for a full day on the slopes.

The weather today is cold, windy & snowy although we are told to expect a fantastic sunny day tomorrow!

The intention is to swim in the outdoor pool tonight & then catch up on some sleep! (Probably more of a necessity for the staff!)

A message for Jonathan....' Hi' from Emma (she's better at skiing than she thought she was going to be!)

More posts to follow...we may not manage daily news though..
